Scientists have identify Hydroxycitric acid (HCA) in Garcinia as an agent which lowers the production of cholesterol and fatty acids, increases the production of glycogen in the liver, supresses appetite and increases body's production of heat by activating the process of thermogenesis. It is also being used as dietary supplement for weight loss and appetite control. In traditional ayurvedic medicine, is used to activate digestion and also as purgatives.
